Automobile
Let’s suppose that a car crash happened due to an accident or bad weather conditions. Maybe your car broke and you have no phone or a battery just broke. What if you slipped out of the road, there is no one around, it’s minus 10 degrees, moreover you left the phone at home and there’s no map in your car? All these situations had already happened or may happen, even to you. However, there’s an easy way to handle such situations: always carry your evacuation backpack in the car’s trunk. Additionally, complete the equipment with some necessary items:
- Decent working gloves
- Flashlight with extra stock of batteries or crank flashlight
- Shovel
- Stocks approx. 5 - 10 liters of fuel
- Towing cable
- Wheel chains (winter)
- Starting cables
- Sand for wheel grip improvement
- Spare wheel, jack or tire repair kit
- Basic tools - 10 and 13 mm wrenches, wheel wrench, flat and cross screwdriver, pliers
- Adhesive tape
- Bulbs and fuses, some loose cable, connectors for cable
- Car atlas, preferably 1: 200 000 scale or bigger
- Compass
- A supply of drinkable water
- Blankets or sleeping bag
- An old mobile phone with a charger, periodically charged, even without a SIM card (112 calls are sufficient)
- Toilet paper plain and moistened
- Plastic bags (small trash bags)
- Extinguisher
- Reflective vests
Your evacuation backpack contains another equipment, that’s necessary to survive.
Before a long car journey, make a technical assessment, either by yourself or in the workshop. It’s important for the car to be prepared to the road. While driving keep in mind to refuel the car when half of the tank is still full. Take care of yourself as well – take a break regularly, rest, hydrate and feed yourself.
Woork, School, Public space
Currently you’re aware of the fact that a threat comes suddenly with no warning. These are some actions that may help you stay safe and alive if the danger occurs:
- While at school or at the workplace make sure that you know where are evacuation routs and whether without any keys and entry cards they might be used
- Before entering into a crowded place, take a look at the facility’s plan, find its location, locate exits or escape routes. Try to remember more than one route
- Think unconventionally, make use of both your own brain and evacuation plan
- While encountering a surge rise of emotions in the crowd – it’s better to back off
- If you happen to feel anxiety, take a few deep breaths and slow exhalations
- Don't let negative thoughts and emotions get in your way as you have your own contingency plan to leave
- Leave the venue 3-5 minutes before the event ends – there’s probably nothing to miss, while you’ll gain calmness and pass the crowd
Are you forced to follow the crowd? Don't panic! Apply some rules:
- Don’t try to walk reversely to the crowd. Get on your fingertips and seek for less crowded space – get there
- Don’t stand by walls, gates, fences, railings, etc., it is better to be pressed against other people than hard objects
- Try not to fall down
- Try to stay outside the crowd rather than in the middle
- Stay calm despite the difficulties, reject any negative thoughts, think positively
- Don’t hurry
- Seek for emergency exits, fire doors, avoid entering closed spaces with a large group of people
- Leave the crowd as soon as you can
